Patchwork quilts of vegetable fields… onions, cabbages being harvested on the steep slopes & in the narrow valleys… Small villages with poor housing… Bananas, sugar cane, fruit stands… misty valleys of conifers… so many eco-systems on the long winding drive to the highlands of Guatemala. In mid-afternoon, the team arrived in Quezaltenango (Xela) & then enjoyed a late lunch at the Hotel Arizona before a tour of the nearby (within walking distance) hospital.
Tomorrow, the team begins a day of screening for cleft lip/palate surgery candidates.
